About me:

Counseling Practice Amsterdam Oost is the practice of Lisa van Mierlo (1986), psychologist and certified registry counselor at the General Professional Association for Counseling.

In my counseling practice I help adults/adolescents and students with personal problems in different areas that hinder them from being who they want to be. 

​

I specialize in counseling adolescents and adults with problems surrounding gender identity and gender dysphoria. My personal journey in this area, combined with the difficulty of finding accessible gender-sensitive care, has motivated me to deepen my knowledge about this and contribute to the existing care offer.

My background:

I graduated in 2008 as a clinical neuropsychologist at Leiden University. After that, I obtained my PhD at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam in person-oriented psychosocial support for people with dementia and their carers. After my PhD, I worked for some time in various functions / roles at the university, where it turned out that I mainly got satisfaction from supporting PhD students. In 2016, I chose to focus entirely on supporting adults and students who encounter problems in their lives. I completed my training as a counselor in psychology at Stichting Counselling Nederland (Dutch Foundation of Counseling).

I followed courses on counseling performance anxiety, Rational Emotive Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and started working as a psychologist in a supportive role in the practice of M. van der Hulst Psycholoog. In addition, I started supervising students who are in MBO, HBO and WO. I incorporated these activities into my counseling practice in 2020. In addition, I am still working as a thesis supervisor, and am affiliated with the NCOI and NTI as a thesis examinator, something I do with great pleasure and enthusiasm.
